How To Measure a Square Or Rectangular Table Top

Tools Retractable Tape Measure, Level

Steps

  1. Take a photo and send it to us. Send us a photo at office@birminghamglassandmirror.com or text it to (248) 270-2867‬

  2. Clear the table top of clutter. It should have nothing on it or around it.

  3. Measure edge-to-edge for the width and height of the table (see drawing below)

Step 4: Check for “Square”

  • “Square” is when a table has perfect right angles (90 degrees) at each corner.

  • This is important to check for because if the angles are not exactly 90 degrees, then the glass has to also be slightly “out of square” or matching the shape of the table top

  • To check for square, measure the table diagonally (like the photo below). If both diagonals match, your table is a perfect square. If they do not match, let us know and we will advise on how to proceed.

Measure both diagonals

Step 5: Check for Level

  • “Level” is when a surface is totally flat. Glass sheets are very close to flat. Wood surfaces may be bumpier, having high and low points.

  • In order to check for “level” you will need a tool called a level. These are very common and found at all big box stores.

  • To use the level, simply place is on the tables surface. If it sits flat, then the table is flat.
