Templates FAQ

Q: Do I need a template for my custom glass piece?

A: For any shape that is not a circle, rectangle, square we need a template. We also need a template if the piece “fits” inside something, such as a glass table top inlays into a table.

Q: What makes a good template?

A: Think sturdy and precise:

  • Thin wood: Ideal for intricate designs and larger shapes, offering strength and stability.

  • Thick cardboard: A readily available option for simpler shapes, providing a solid base for accuracy.

  • Paper templates: While acceptable for small, basic shapes, they may require extra care during handling and cutting.

**Pro tip: If your item is portable, bringing the actual object is the ultimate template! It eliminates guesswork and ensures a seamless translation to glass.

Q: What if I can't bring the object?

A: We're equipped to create templates for you! However, a template creation fee may apply to cover our time and materials.

Q: What information should be on the template?

  • Clearly mark the desired shape outline.

  • Include key dimension points for accurate sizing.

  • Add specific notes about any features or cutouts you'd like.
